Our Tradition

Our day didn't exactly start out as tradition...Brent left early to go deer hunting at the family cabin. Around 7am Benjamin came into my room to say that his stomach felt sick. Ahhh! This part is not tradition! :-) He went back to bed and ended up sleeping until almost 9am! He did end up with a low grade fever for the rest of the day. I have a feeling the stomach thing was from his chest cold (lots of draining in his chest) and all the food he consumed at a birthday party he was at last night. When he came home he was completely exhausted. He had quite the social calendar over Thanksgiving break. We ended up having quite a relaxing day together. By this evening his fever broke and we were both a little stir crazy. And so now we get to the tradition part. Every year when Brent leaves on Sunday for deer hunting, Benjamin and I make a Gingerbread House together (from a Wilton kit) in the evening. He gets to pick the house design, I glue it together, put the icing on, and he takes care of the candy decorating. He told me "this is fun mom I like making a Gingerbread House with you every year!" How sweet! Traditions are a lot of fun!

Happy Birthday Brent!

Happy Birthday Brent!

This weekend Brent and I had the chance to go away to celebrate his birthday. We had a gift certificate to Speedwell Forge Bed and Breakfast to stay in the Paymaster's Office. It was beautiful! It was actually a little stone house off from the b&b itself. The funny thing was that the b&b was only 10 minutes from our house, however we still felt like we were able to get away from it all! Saturday we even started some of our Christmas shopping together. We ended our day with dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Thanks to my parents for keeping Benjamin Friday night and Saturday! He had a fun time too.
Happy Birthday Brent! You are an amazing husband and dad! I hope you have a great day!

Little Hunter

Daddy's Little Hunter
Last Wednesday Brent and his friend Kenton headed to the cabin. Friday night Janelle, the boys, and I went up to join them for the weekend. We had a great time together! This is a yearly tradition that we always look forward to. The guys took the boys out hunting Saturday afternoon. Brent was so proud of Benjamin. He said he was great at "sneaking" to their spot as well as sitting still to watch for deer. Benjamin's grandpa would be so proud!

This pic is of Benjamin hunting in our backyard with his bb gun. (Is that how you spell bb gun?!?) He was loving it!

Goodbye To Soccer

Customized Soccer Jersey - ImageChef.com

This past Saturday was Benjamin's last soccer game for the season. It was a chilly one (Benjamin's wearing the hat)! His team, the Dominators had a really good season. Benjamin had a great team of boys and 2 wonderful coaches.
He learned a lot again this year! It's sad to see it end, but it will be nice to have a break until baseball starts up again in March.
"Mr. Speed" as his coach called him!

November Is National Adoption Month

Did you know that the month of November is National Adoption Month in the U.S.? Here is info found on this link--National Adoption
"The first major effort to promote awareness of the need for adoptive families for children in the foster care system occurred in Massachusetts. In 1976, then-Governor Mike Dukakis proclaimed Adoption Week and the idea grew in popularity and spread throughout the nation. President Gerald Ford made the first National Adoption Week proclamation, and in 1990, the week was expanded to a month due to the number of states participating and the number of events.
During the month, states, communities, public and private organizations, businesses, families, and individuals celebrate adoption as a positive way to build families. Across the nation, activities and observances such as recognition dinners, public awareness and recruitment campaigns, and special events spotlight the needs of children who need permanent families. It also includes National Adoption Day, traditionally a Saturday, which is observed in courthouses across the nation as thousands of adoptions are finalized simultaneously."

A song has also been added to the right of our blog. This is an amazing song by Steven Curtis Chapman. He is an amazing advocate for adoption. I know I needed some tissues the first time I heard it!

November Adoption Update

HOPE

China's website was officially updated today to show that they have matched families with log in dates (LID) through December 8, 2005. They officially moved 8 days. While 8 days this month is better than some months in the past, we were really hoping that they were going to make it closer to mid December. As a reminder our LID is January 24, 2006. If China continues to refer 8 days a month we will be looking at a referral in May/June 08. We continue to pray for a speed up! On the brighter side, friends of ours from church are expecting their referral this week. We are so excited for them! It gives us hope!
